The Seance

Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are dead. A young member of the Spirit Questors conducts a seance to ask them for messages but he accesses, instead, an old mage who is conducting the same seance. The mage either has also passed away or is alive but in a different location, hence the two candles.

The spirit of Luzon is moving on to the light, taking with her a young girl from the lowlands. The spirit of Mindanao attempts to reach out to the boy but he can neither see nor hear her. The female spirit of the Visayas, on the other hand, prevents the male spirit of the Visayas from communicating with the boy. On the right, the nude man is Naked Truth unwilling to speak to anyone at this time.

Alternatively, there are only four spirits: Luzon moving on with the little girl, and the female in pink (Visayas) preventing the male (Mindanao) from communicating with the boy. The female on the extreme left, therefore, is the alter ego of the boy, while the nude man on the right is the alter ego of the mage.

Again alternatively, we can see the scene as being from the point of view of the mage, who is conducting a seance while seeing himself as he was in the past (the boy).

Old Friends Visit

Armand, Lani, and Karen Cusi, old friends from the second generation years of the Spirit Questors, visited. We had a snack at M.'s cafe. Gave them some antiques and two paintings: Male Nude, Arms On Back Of Chair (gray and black Conte crayon on toned paper) and Study in Charcoal, both made in 2005.

A Former Workshop Participant Visits

Sunday, April 3, 2016. Cora Castro, a former workshop participant, visited with two Spirit Questors and a student for afternoon tea. She lives very far from Cubao. I took this as an opportunity to give her two paintings to remember me by: Left, Still Life with Changing Moon, oil pastels on sandpaper, and Right, Study on Halloween, pastels, a study for my Saint John The Baptist triptych.

A Visit From Two Spirit Questors From Previous Years

Ryan Valera and Peachie Dioquino-Valera, two former students who met each other and fell in love while participating in my workshops years ago, visited this afternoon with their six-year-old daughter, Mandala. I took them to a late lunch at M.'s cafe, and then we went to the house, where I gave them lots of stuff since I am trying to clear two rooms to relocate our kitchen in. They reminded me of something I'd forgotten, that today is the anniversary of the Spirit Questors, a group that has been in existence since I founded it in 1996.

I gave them, among other things, two paintings for their house: Left, Tai Toh Kung, God of Medicine, acrylic, which was exhibited at the Cultural Center of the Philippines for my retrospective, and Right, Morning After Overtime, also acrylic, which was exhibited at Sining Kamalig and a study for my Saint John The Baptist triptych.

A Former Co-Worker Visits After We Reune On A Social Medium

Rouel Borja came to visit today, actually to pick up some magical items I'd set aside for him. I gave him, among other things, an old, framed sketch that I made years ago, when we were still together in the workplace.
